What are countdown tickers?
Countdown tickers are graphical countdown timers that are often used in signatures on forums, message boards, blogs, email, web pages, etc. so that the user can share their special countdowns and events with friends and family.

Do I need to login to create a ticker?
No. You do not need to login to create a ticker on MyVacationCountdown.com. The login is only used for weight loss tickers so that you do not need to re-create a new ticker each time you need to update your weight loss progress. For weight loss tickers you will be prompted to create a login and password before the ticker is completed.

Is there a limit to the number of tickers I can create?
No. You can create as many tickers as you like on MyVacationCountdown.com. Simply visit MyVacationCountdown.com and pick the type of ticker you want to create and follow the four simple steps. After your ticker is created, simply choose another ticker type to create from the choices on the left or click on "Go back to Step One -- choose a background" if you want to create another ticker of the same type.

How do I use my ticker on a forum/message board?
At the final step in creating your ticker you will find codes that you can copy/paste to use. For boards such as Disboards and other vBulletin boards that does not allow HTML codes you would use the BBCode. Simply click in the box which will highlight the codes, copy, then paste into your signature. Other boards that accept html codes such as SMF boards will accept both the BBCode or HTML, simply copy the codes and paste either into your message or into your signature. Ezboard users can simply copy the Ezcode to use on their messages. If you are unsure what type of codes will work with the forum/message boards you visit, simply check with the moderator (or Administrator) on your forum/message board.

Apple Mail
Apple Mail supports multiple signatures. These can be assigned to any number of email accounts you have set up. You can automatically assign a particular signature to an account, or choose them from a drop down list while composing your email. To create a signature, follow these steps.

1. Go to Preferences » Signatures » and click the + button. You can now type in your plaintext signature, and quit Mail.

2. Create an HTML file for your ticker. To do this, simply copy the text below into notepad, changing "Your name" and "http://www.myvacationcounter/tickers/xxxxx.png" to what you want to input (you can find the ticker url on the final step under "Image url"). If you need more than one line of text for your signature, place <br> at the end of each line to create a line break.

Save your file as a .html by putting quotes around the filename ex: "counter.html" or it will name it with a .txt extention. You can also use any html editor to create the html file.

3. Open Safari and verify your signature is how you want it to look. Use the File -> File Open... menu option or simply drag htmlsig.html to your browser window. Save your HTML code as a Web Archive. In Safari while viewing your HTML signature code, File -> Save As... and choose "Web Archive" format. When you click Save, you will want to use the ".webarchive" suffix when prompted. Save it your Desktop for the time being.

4. Navigate to YourHomeFolder » Library » Mail » Signatures, and replace the existing ‘.webarchive' file with the ‘.webarchive' file you've just created. Make sure you copy over the exact name over to ‘.webarchive', or Mail will not recognise the file.

5. Now, launch Mail, go over to the signature preferences again. Drag that signature from the middle pane to any of your accounts which you want to use this signature with. You can also set the default signature for each account from the settings. Once done, you can compose a new mail, and the signature will have your vacation counter included!
